In Bed

August 25, 2003

I'll wrap myself up in blankets,
snuggle on down into softness
and remember with fondness the laughter,
the seduction and the trembling despair.
I'll bring into my bed the thoughts
that will conjure up the completion
of all the loneliest memories of living,
until, at last, I am safely held in comfort.
More than memory, more than hope,
I've offered everything within that womb,
and here I wait for you to say once more,
"I'm here, and I'm coming home."
